STAY + SPAY is part vacation and part animal rescuing experience. Maeday Rescue is teaming up with local resort Acre to help bring free spay and neutering to the residents of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. When we aren’t volunteering at the clinic, we’ll be lounging by the pool with a cocktail!
As a volunteer, you will assist with a wide range of tasks to help create an efficient, sterile and comfortable environment for the animals. Duties range from checking dogs in (if you’re bilingual and speak Spanish we need you here!), weighing and shaving the animals, washing towels and replenishing the supplies for vets, helping wake and comfort the animals post-surgery, clipping nails, etc. Remember no experience is needed!
Spaying and neutering is a huge help to the community of San Jose del Cabo. Not only can it be beneficial to the animal’s health, (i.e. reducing the risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian or uterine cancer in females and decreasing aggression in males), it helps control the population that can quickly get out of control. By fixing 100 animals, we could prevent 600 strays from roaming the streets without proper food, water or medical care.
The treehouses at Acre are equal parts earthy and sophisticated. A private jungle oasis with the frills of a boutique hotel.  Each room has a bathroom, closet, spacious patio, outdoor shower and high-speed internet. The decor is crafted by Mexican artisans, and the walls are constructed from the branches of local trees. The breezy rooms do not have AC and it's a warm time of year. All rooms have king beds so come with your significant other or bestie!
We've put together an amazing plan with Chef Alex Branch. The restaurant is accommodating with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Your stay will include a welcome dinner, breakfast and lunch every day and a Wrap Party to celebrate our hard work.
